The design of the Discern Waste Receptacle(DWR) was intended to be simple, and not entirely specialised. It aims to satisfy the more general needs associated with (recyclable) waste disposal and collection.
The thinking behind this concept is that the DWR will become a transitional solution as the contemporary system in South Africa changes. The DWR is designed to function within the present contemporary system as well as within the possible future systems.
The DWR achieves this through modular design. The DWR bins clip together and they can be customised to suite specific needs.
The shape allows waste to easily be poured out of the receptacle.
